Nithya Garg is an artist, curator, and producer who has trained in the south asian classical dance form of bharatanatyam for two decades. Her work is informed by the pedagogy of Lata Pada who has guided her formal training through Sampradaya Dance Academy and the professional company of Sampradaya Dance Creations.
Through Sampradaya, Nithya has had the opportunity to tour across Canada, India, and Indonesia. She was a featured artists in ĀNANDAṀ’s public artwork, Ephemeral Artifacts: Scarborough, which premiered at Nuit Blanche in 2019, as well as the commissioned work Chalking by Padmini Chettur. Nithya was a showcased artist in the premiere episode of Luminato Festivals “Golden Hour” (2021).
She collaborated with Tanveer Alam, presenting a dance installation at the 2022 Nuit Blanche Humber Galleries Independent Projects entitled In Multiplicity, a multimedia installation. Nithya and Tanveer were the 22/23 Guest Curators with Dancemakers, premiering their residency initiative "Engaging in Repertoire." Nithya received the 2020/21 Metcalf Internship to specialize in the fields of Curation and Production with ĀNANDAṀ, worked with the company from 2021-2023 as their Curation and Production Director.
With the support of ĀNANDAṀ, Nithya has curated an annual dance and music festival, Collective Practice Festival, over the past five years. Practitioners of south asian dance and music gather for a durational sharing of practice. This festival continues to impact artists across the GTA and Canada, and remains to be at the heart of Nithya's curatorial practice.
